Color and Material Design

Collaboratively created a growing “superhero” story for 18-year-old professional tennis player Coco Gauff to design a performance-based, lifestyle-influenced footwear and apparel collection. Based on the story, I designed the collection's color, graphic pattern, and material.

Athlete Profile

  • Coco is going through a journey of transforming her sweat, tears, and gift into superpowers, like the superheroes she adores. With her parents’ solid support, she has believed that “you can change the world with your racket”. She is the youngest junior grand slam in history at the u.s open. Coco is also a super cute adolescent who loves to express herself through TikTok, comics, dancing, and fashion.

  • However, besides the tough training, Coco also has to face the anxiety monster that comes from high outside expectations, comparing herself with others, and the loneliness of a homeschooler. Her love of tennis and self-love helped her superpower transform.

  • Coco is becoming a superhero not only in the world of tennis but also through black lives matter, social justice, mental health, and fashion. She is influential with the next generation by choosing sustainable brands like NewBalance and eco-friendly materials.

    Coco will imprint her unmatched superpower on the path paved by Althea Gibson, the first African American female tennis player, and the William sisters.
